We recently decided to switch service providers at home to Virgin Media, the main reason for this; we can get a better deal if we combine home phone, broadband and a TV package.
We previously had a BT phone line, PlusNet ADSL Internet connection and a mid range Sky package. The engineer came on Friday to install the equipment and kept everything very neat and tidy; he even installed a second point upstairs for the broadband in our office.
I arrived home from work and I setup a borrowed cable router, all was working fine for about 3 hours but now the ‘ready’ light on the cable modem is continuously flashing which means there is a problem between our cable modem and the local exchange. I rang to report the fault and an engineer will be with us on Tuesday to resolve the issue which isn’t too long of a wait.
What’s surprised me is how much I miss the Internet, I can’t check my emails or see how the items I’m selling are doing on eBay, log into work to check everything is OK, or even blog! I’m writing this one offline! It’s amazing how you become so used to have access pretty much everywhere and how ‘disconnected’ you feel when its not there. It is just affecting me as a I.T geek either, my wife’s also feeling the strain of having no access although it took her a little longer to admit it.
For the time being I think I will have to break out the old emergency work 3G data card for my laptop, at least then I have some form of connection.
