My new toy
Well so far, life with the v1415 (aka Vox, S710 & E650) has been pretty good.
First impressions are the larger than normal screen do the phone lots of credit, you wouldn’t expect 0.2 inches to make much difference but it certainly makes using the device easier.
The keyboard will take some getting used to but my typing speed is already increased beyond that of a normal predictive text keypad and the the new xT9 predictive system is far superior to its predecessor, even managing to figure out unknown words like names, for example ‘gnasupport’
Recent software purchases of Efficasoft GPRS Traffic Monitor and Iliumsoft NewsBreak both work on my new device, and even though I had to download a different installation file for the GPRS traffic monitor my registration code still works.
I have had a couple of minor issues which I think with some help I can resolve and also a slightly bigger one which I have outlined below;
The system sounds – I have the wireless component of the device set to automatically turn off after periods of activity, obviously to save battery life. However the problem is when the device times out there is an high pitch beep to tell you its turned the wireless off, this happens again when you start to use the device and its turned back on. This is a problem but I have seen a few posts over at Modaco regarding the issue and so will see if there are any solutions present.
No ‘new document’ option in Mobile Office – After a quick search, again Modaco turned up trumps, thanks to Paul for his solution which resolves this.
And finally (this is a biggy for me); removal of Live Messenger – I’m still unsure as to the real reason for Orange and Vodafone removing this application but it’s fairly frustrating. I have this device which was intended for better, more intelligent communication, it was even designed and built with this in mind and yet the operators have to ruin it. Shame really because this is almost my perfect device.
