I had a scare last night, I had just got into bed and decided to uninstall an application I had been evaluating from my v1415 Windows Mobile device. The uninstall completed and asked to restart my phone, I select yes and the reboot process begins.
As the device began to boot, I got the usual Vodafone screen, then the usual Windows Mobile screen, then… hang on a moment back to the Vodafone screen! After watching the device for five minutes I pulled the battery out and left it for a few minutes while I thought about what was on there.
All the important documents or emails were also on my office PC so no worries there, my contacts and OneNote items had been synced just that morning so no problems there and last just not least my voice notes. I use voice notes to record the mileage I do for my company, a log of time and date and how many miles travelled, there were at least 20 journeys recorded which would be lost should I have to reset the device.
So I picked up the phone and put the battery in, booted and the same restart loop. By this time I’m wording the grovelling email I would have to send to my employer regarding the mileage in my head. I had one last attempt at getting the phone booted but this time removed the SIM and 2GB microSD card and voila, it booted!
I’m not sure what caused the restart loop but it certainly made me evaluate my current backup process, I had a trial version of Sprite Backup with the full intention of purchasing it afterwards but never got round to it.
Do you backup your device?
