“Sharp Corporation has successfully developed a new System LCD equipped with touch screen and scanner functions. An optical sensor is built into each pixel of the LCD panel, eliminating the need to bond a film to the panel for touch screen functions, and providing beautiful images without losing display image quality.”
This new touch screen unveiled at the Ceatec exhibition has several advantages over conventional touch screens, for starters it enables more than a single point of contact on the screen, meaning you can touch the screen with several fingers and even use different movements. Also because of the optical sensors you can use it to physically scan an object by pressing it against the screen.

I read about this new Sharp touch screen technology a while back but didn’t realise how quickly it would come to the mass market. As it turns out with key OEM’s having demonstration units alright it will be in our devices quicker than you think.
