Advantages of SSD over normal hard drives
We all know the theory of the SSD (solid-state drive), its flash or DRAM based drive and has no moving parts, which largely eliminates seek time, latency and failures associated with a conventional hard disk drive.
Not only is the performance of a SSD based device increased due to the faster read/write speeds but also the battery life is increased too.
Well over at GottaBeMobile Rob Bushway has been testing an OQO Model 02 SSD compared to the conventional 4200 RPM hard drive and the results are staggering, we all expected a performance increased but nothing like what is being achieved.
To quote Rob:
“The results are pretty remarkable. It is the fastest UMPC / Ultra Mobile Tablet PC I’ve ever used – period.”
The initial feelings are here and some more in-depth results here.
