After my recent incident with my laptop whilst working for a customer I have began searching for alternative malware solutions.

My browsing and working habits on my laptop mean I don’t need a heavy solution sapping the life out of my netbooks limited resources but as evident from this weeks occurrence I need something heavier than AVG’s free edition.

The main issues with AVG’s free edition is the lack of firewall and registry or file change protection, well what do you expect for a free product? I suppose I should take some of my own advice which I regularly give to clients; antivirus alone just won’t do, you need an Internet Security suite

After a few hours research I have found a few positive reviews and commendations for Comodo Firewall. A quick visit to the Comodo website and they also offer an Internet Security suite which looks like it covers my needs.

I’ve installed it on my Windows 7 installation on the workhorse EEE PC and on my home computer and so far am impressed by the level of protection this free product gives. There is also an installation mode which you can enable when installing new software to prevent Comodo warning of changes to the system. The only issue with using it on Windows 7 is the product reports to the operating system in the old format which according the forums will be resolved in version 4.

It’s still early days for Comodo Internet Security but so far, overall I’m impressed.
